Brian Connolly was the front man of the En- glish band “Sweet”. In the seventies the band was often represented in the charts. But they did very well in Germany, where they had a huge success. They received one bronze, three golden and two silver Bravo-Otto rewards from the German magazine “Bravo”. Between 1971 and 1975 Sweet had not less than 8 nu- mber 1 songs in Germany. Only the Beatles were (and are) better represented with 11, and Abba with 9 number one hits. This suc- cess was also due to Brian’s great talent and personality. Due to his drug and alcohol pro- blems Brian Connolly left the band in 1979. He started a solo career without any success. But also for “Sweet” who tried as a trio, it went slowly to an end. Later Brian got his own band called “Brian Connolly’s Sweet”. But at that point, his voice was so weak that only some hardcore “Sweet” fans followed. After a few heart-attacks, Brian Connolly died in 1997 at only 51 due to renal failure.
