Against the common belief, Kurt Cobain was not born in Seattle, but 140km southwest, in a small town of 16 800 souls called “Aberdeen”. His youth and childhood were marked by many problems. At the age of 9, his parents got divorced. The relationship with his mo- ther’s new boyfriend was bad, so he moved to his dad. But Kirk didn’t get along with his father’s new partner. He only got satisfaction in his music. Kirk played in several bands from 1986 on but it was only in 1987 that he foun- ded the lengendary band “Nirvana”. With this band he became a superstar until his suicide in 1994. He’s often refered to as the godfather of “Grunge”. His dead body was found in his home in Seattle on April 5th, 1994. He killed himself with a “Browning Auto-5”. In his last letter he mentioned a phrase of a Neil Young song “My My, Hey Hey(Out of the Blue)”: “It’s better to burn out than to fade away”. He was married to singer and actress Courtney Love. Members of Nirvana were Bassist Krist Novoselić, drummer Dave Grohl and singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain.
