Cesária Évora used to perform barefoot. She was called the “Queen of Morna” a music style from “Cabo Verde”. The language was also Cape Verdean Creole. Cesária came from a musical family in a little town called Min- delo, on the Island “São Vicente”. After the early death of her dead, she was raised in a home and later in a foster family. She earned her money with gigs in local bars. She got her first musical contract only at the age of 47 and soon advanced to a worldwide star- dom. In 2006 she appeared as a special guest on Peter Maffay’s album “Begegnungen 2- Eine Allianz für Kinder”, and got involved in the recordings for Bernard Lavilliers album “Carnets de bord”. Cesária Évora died on December 27, 2011, at the age of 70 and the prime minister from Cabo Verde called for a 48 hours State mourning.
